iOS 14 seems to have checked off all the necessary things Apple users wanted in the latest upgrade. When you first upgrade to iOS 14, either in beta or when it releases, you will be treated to some noticeable improvements. But some of the best features aren’t the one Apple boasts about. Lying hidden in iOS 14:5 are some great hidden features that users should definitely know about. We will share some of the secret benefits and features of iOS 14 that will enrich your user experience and unlock an amazing upgrade for you.
Back Tap- iOS 14 allows you to set specific functions to a double-tap or a triple-tap on the back of your iPhone. Head to Settings> Accessibility> Touch and look for a Back tap at the bottom of your screen. There’s a list of functions and settings you can assign to double or triple taps. You can also assign Shortcuts to them which opens up the feature to all kinds of possibilities. Another trick is to install Google Assistant. Once you have that then you create a Shortcut to invoke it. And then set the Shortcut to a double or triple tap.
Safari Privacy Report- Once you open Safari, then on any page tap the text/font/reader button on the left side of the navigation bar. At the bottom of the list, you will see the Privacy Report. This shows the number of trackers prevented by Safari, the websites with the most trackers, and the trackers you have encountered most often. This provides a great overview of your activity and indicates how successful Safari is at protecting your cyber identity.
Home Screen Customization- iPhone users can now customize their home screen right from the Settings app. You can add new apps to the App Library or keep them on the Home Screen. There is a new and amazing feature to show notification badges in the App Library. Though it’s not a completely new style of customization, it still is something new and a good beginning for future customization options.
Mirrored Selfies- If you like to capture EXACTLY what you see on screen, backward text, and all, you can now do that. Open Settings> Camera and toggle the new Mirror Front Camera toggle. This lets you take photos as you are and reverses the text. A simple but interesting feature for people wanting to take selfies.
Privacy for Photos- You can now allow apps only selective access to your photo library rather than the whole library. This prevents many apps from accessing your library or having it in their database when not necessary or required.
Headphone Settings- Open Settings>Accessibility> Audio/Visual, and you will see a new setting for Headphone Accommodations. This menu allows you to tweak the sound output on supported Apple and Beats headphones to bring out vocals more or make the sound ‘brighter.’ You can choose to run a custom audio setup function that will run a series of A/B tests to help finalize the perfect audio settings.
Local Network Privacy- With iOS 14, apps need to ask permission to find and connect with devices on the local network.
Exposure Settings- iOS comes equipped with an all-new exposure compensation control that allows you to lock an exposure value while separately locking camera focus. This makes for some great photography settings.
Night Mode- When Night Mode is activated on the iPhone, the camera takes advantage of the gyroscope to offer a guidance indicator that supports you to hold the camera steady. You can also cancel a photo mid-capture with the new and improved Night Mode features.
Message Thread- A simple but powerful new feature is the conversation threads for group chats. It also works in standard chats, allowing you to tap on any message to reply to that message directly.
Emoji Picker- iOS 14 comes with the emoji search interface available on Mac. You can find specific emojis by just typing the word instead of having to manually search for it.
Apple Music- The Music App has been redesigned to look sleek, fresh, and intuitive. The bottom navigation menu features Browse, Radio, Library, and Search tabs. The ‘For You’ tab has been replaced with Listen Now. The app has also introduced an Autoplay feature that automatically finds new music at the end of the song or a playlist so your songs or music don’t come to an abrupt end.
These new and intuitive features in the iOS 14:5 update make the iPhone experience feel seamless, user friendly, and super convenient. These features are typical Apple moves as they focus on privacy, design, and emphasizing the brand rather than following trends blindly. It works with several devices going right up to iPhone 6S and SE. iOS 14 will probably be launched in September 2020.
